Watched District 9 last night. I thought it was brilliant. It has it flaws, but it's original and utterly enthralling. Part sci-fi, part spoof documentary, part action film, part love story, and all very, very dark comedy. It also has the most unlikely and endearing hero. The best part of the film is him running around with all these aliens and big weapons saying "fock, FOCK!" in a this Johannesburg accent. There's an apartheid based social subtext which is perhaps a little unsubtle but ultimately works.

I really liked this film. Absolutely recommended.

Me and the Mrs watched An American Warewolf In London the other night, a stone cold classic, the wife had never seen it!!!



Before that we watched Stardust which, much to my surprise, was actually quite good. I had pretty low expectations so was pleasantly surprised.

Amercian Werewolf is timeless.

Stardust is cat poo compared to the book.

I'll have to check out the book then. It's a Neil Gaiman book isn't it?

Correct. Not a massive Gaiman fan, but I really liked that book.

I've recently re-read it, too. Decided to watch it because Greenstreet is so marvelous in it and because I had just watched Casablanca and I swear they rip of the "I should learn to stutter" line from Hammett. I just had to check it out and yeah, Hammett's line is older than the Casablanca line. It's a great one though and probably the best one in both MF and C. Bogie's delivery was so perfect. He doesn't match the description of Spade in any way, but does a good job playing the little sociopath.
